The Human Elements – 18x12 poster

In their 2012 State of the American Workplace report, Gallup discovered that, "Only 30% of the U.S. workforce is engaged in their work; and the ration of engaged to actively disengaged employees is roughly 2-to-1, meaning the vast majority of U.S. workers (70%) are not reaching they full potential."

Completely blown away by these stats it became quite clear the greatest issue facing America is not the economy but the decaying culture from which the economy reflects. Something has to be done about this. And before something can be done to empower human persons we must drill down to the basics about what human persons actually are.

Author and designer, Kurt Hoffman, therefore, developed this beautiful poster to help the world see people as they are –  equally dignified and uniquely diverse whole persons. That is, we have a mind but we are not only that. We have emotions but that is not all we are. We are creative but that is just the beginning.

And this is beyond critical for this clear yet ignored truth – because the highest potential of any thing is defined by its nature. A horse is a horse and no matter how bad we want it to swim like a fish it never will. Never. It is not in its nature. Cultivating human flourishing individually and collectively, therefore, is the same. It first requires fully understanding and affirming human nature as it is. What we actually are in reality. And then developing, growing, and enlivening the heck out of it.

More, businesses, schools, organizations, and governments do not just fall from the sky. They are not arbitrary. Rather, they themselves are natural extensions and creative expressions of the human person in community. So, collectively too, it is vital for their own future that any and every human entity also affirms the fullness of the human person toward their highest potential.

While diverse in expression, even when neglected, avoided, resisted, or denied, therefore, The Human Elements poster details 20 key elements every human person has in common. If affirmed, appreciated, and cultivated we will flourish. Individually. Collectively. Sustainably. So, yeah, it is kind of a big deal...
